NRC: Supreme Court comes down heavily on Assam officials for speaking to the media
Source: GISTThe Supreme Court of India came down heavily on Assam state coordinator and registrar of the national registrar of Citizens (NRC) for speaking to the media without taking prior permission. The two-judge bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi and RF Nariman referred to coordinator Prateek Hajela and Registrar Shailesh and said it would have initiated contempt proceedings against them if the matter had not been so urgent. The final draft of Assam’s NRC has not added more than 40 lakh people of the 3.29 crore people who applied, The process for making claims and objections will start from August 30 till September 28.
