GURUGRAM: Heavy rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, lashed parts of the city on Tuesday. The maximum temperature dropped to 31 degrees Celsius on Tuesday from 33 degrees Celsius on Monday. Spells of rain are likely to continue till August 11, according to weather officials.
The fresh precipitation brought some relief but the humidity was 95% on Tuesday. Residents have been dealing with unpleasant weather conditions due to the high levels of humidity for more than a week.

On Tuesday, rain started around 3.30pm and continued for more than an hour. Other regions in NCR also received rainfall in varying degrees.

Weather officials said the rain was likely to continue till Saturday owing to a fresh build-up of a low-pressure zone. “We are likely to see light to moderate rain on August 8,9 and 10. The rain after that will be less intense,” an official said. Officials also said that the rain would be in spells and cloudy skies would alternate with brief periods of sunlight.

Palam observatory recorded 12.6mm of rainfall during past 24 hours. Officials couldn’t immediately release rainfall figures for the city though Palam is very close to Gurugram.

Meanwhile, rain led to waterlogging in various parts of the city. TOI received multiple reports about waterlogging impeding traffic movement in the interior roads of the city. In Sushant Lok 1, residents said rain water mixed with dirty sewer water inundated the key internal roads.

Charu Kapoor, a resident, said, “We have been trying to get the drainage pipes unclogged but nothing has changed.”

Areas such as DLF 3, Sector 56, Sector 21 also reported water gushing through streets. “This is due to the poor drainage system,” Sanjeev, a resident, said.

Many areas also faced brief outages but residents said the supply was back soon. However, DLF 4 residents said the electricity supply was erratic throughout the day, and officials concerned were not returning their calls.
