GUWAHATI: Former Union minister Shashi Tharoor's remarks about various regional headgears, donned by PM Narendra Modi, being "outlandish and hilarious" has drawn furious reactions from various quarters of the northeast . Assam health minister and convener of the BJP-led North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, "An abhorring act! Mocking people of northeast and our dressing choices is what Rahul Gandhi's family and Congress has done for 70 years. Will Rahul Gandhi apologise for such statements of his party members?"
Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio tweeted, "We are proud of our history and traditions. The Naga headgear is renowned and gifted with honour, definitely not outlandish. Mutual respect makes India a great nation. One must apologise and withdraw statements that hurt others' sentiment."
