Karunanidhi no more: Kalaignar’s journey in Tamil film industry

DMK party chief M Karunanidhi, who breathed his last at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai on Tuesday, began his career in the Tamil film industry at the tender age of 20. Karunanidhi began his career as screenwriter with the film Rajakumari in 1947. Karunanidhi, the former five-time chief minister of Tamil Nadu, worked in about 40 films and 'Ponnar Shankar' (2011), starring Prashanth in the lead role was his last film as a writer. Parasakthi released in 1952 and Thangarathnam in 1960 are among Karunanidhi’s noteworthy works.
