Facebook is bringing some major changes to its platform, specifically on the mobile version that not just affects the local businesses but also brings a refreshed look for end users. As mentioned by Alex Himel, vice president, Local at Facebook, the website is introducing a bunch of visual changes and features for business pages, making it easier for users to interact with them.
In a push to become more engaging and deliver more services besides mere social networking, the website will now, for instance, will let you book a table in a restaurant if you are on that restaurant’s page.
Also mentioned is that each category of the page will be different. The firm could be rolling out custom designs for different types of pages in future. For now, the social media firm is starting with revamped pages for restaurants, local services and TV show pages.
The Recommendation feature is also getting a redesign as Facebook will be crowdsourcing the information that will be shown directly in the pages. This aims to give users more realistic reviews and feedbacks from others. Also, it will be possible to upload photos and write a more detailed review with limited word count about a restaurant or a local business as a part of recommendations.
In addition to this, Facebook is expanding its jobs platform. This was limited to certain markets and is now available globally. The firm is also bringing a new ‘Local’ section with bookmarked places on its site to users see nearby areas of interest.
Talking about visual changes, Facebook recently revealed that it is overhauling the navigation bar on its Android and iOS apps. After the update, the app is said to keep the News Feed, Notifications and Menu icons intact in the navigation bar but other slots will show other sections based on your usage. These can be anything from shortcuts to access your Profile, Friend requests, Marketplace, Groups and Watch.
