Heavy rain causes building floor collapse

The consistent rain in Dehradun caused the first floor of a condemned building to collapse near the busy Tehsil Chowk area. Though no one was injured in the collapse, the incident has elicited focus on the number of such condemned buildings considered to be at risk of collapse in the provisional State capital. Such buildings are occupied for residential and commercial purposes.

According to official sources, the city Kotwali police station received information from the control room on Monday about the upper floor of a building near Tehsil Chowk collapsing due to the heavy rain. According to the police, nobody was harmed due to the portion of the building collapsing. The said building was used in the past as an office of the Punjab and Sind bank. The upper floor of this building is believed to have collapsed due to the heavy rain. In the past this building had been categorised as a condemned building likely to fall and a notice regarding this had also been pasted on the building. The rubble was removed from the road to prevent disruption of traffic in this busy locality, added the police.
