Stating that the hospital was yet to receive the government order before it could be launched, Dr R Jayanthi, Dean of the hospital, said, “There is still some work pending and we are yet to set up a transformer for the block. Other than that, most of the work has been completed. We are looking to open the super speciality block exclusive to nephrology and urology soon.”

The eight-storey building will have one floor dedicated for operation theatres and another for dialysis. “One floor will accommodate wards under the Nephrology Department for both male and female patients, and another will have the same under the Urology Department,” she said, adding that the block would also have a floor dedicated for outpatients.

Stating that this was in the tentative planning stage, she added, “The footfall at the hospital is close to 12,000 patients and the inpatient strength is around 3,500. It is therefore very important that we dedicate a separate block for the institutes of high importance. We see hundreds of patients coming in with renal failure and other problems of the kidneys and this block will, therefore, serve to cater all these cases.”

With close to 45 dialysis machines, the hospital needed such a facility, said a doctor at the hospital. “Besides, we also have an active and robust transplant programme. All procedures in urology, starting from simple stenting to lithotripsy are done here. It hence deserves an entire block,” he added.
