MOHALI: A video showing Skyrock City Welfare Society president Navjeet Singh, an accused in multiple cases of fraud and cheating who is lodged in Ropar jail at the moment, roaming freely in a market in Mohali, emerged on Monday.

There are over 150 cases of property fraud against Navjeet.

The video shows Navjeet along with a woman and two Punjab Police cops getting off a vehicle and walking towards a white-coloured car in the parking lot of Phase II market in Mohali.

The video clip further shows Navjeet talking to the occupants of the car as the two cops in uniform look on. Sources said Navjeet had been brought to Mohali court for appearance in one of the fraud cases.

The video, which was shot on Friday, has gone viral, prompting Gurnam Gill, a resident of Phase XI, who was allegedly duped by Navjeet Singh, to file a complaint with Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal. Gill has also sent the videos and photographs as evidence to the SSP on his mobile number.

“This video is a hard evidence of how cops are handin-glove with a man who is an accused in multiple cases of fraud. There should be an investigation launched and heads must roll in the police department,” said Gill.

In the complaint, Gill has also mentioned that the white car had a fake registration number.

Chahal said, “Navjeet Singh is lodged in jail, so how he was wondering in the market? We have received a complaint about the vehicle carrying fake registration number and acting on the complaint we have seized the vehicle and we are verifying the facts,” the SSP said.

A senior officer of the Mohali police confirmed that the man was seen in the video is Navjeet Singh. He said, “Navjeet Singh was brought to Mohali for a court hearing,”

Navjeet was arrested in 2016 by Mohali police and is currently facing trial in multiple fraud cases. The society was allegedly facing fraud cases of more the Rs 18,000 crore.
