SC warns people obstructing sealing

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday warned that those obstructing the Government officials from carrying out sealing of unauthorised and illegal constructions in Delhi would be sent directly to the Tihar jail from the court.

The stern warning came from a bench of Justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta, which accepted an unconditional apology tendered by Mukesh Suryan, the chairman of the wards committee of the Najafgarh zone, against whom allegations were levelled that he had threatened the officials.

30m of Debris pile up at mouth of ganga

New Delhi: Debris of 30 metre has piled up at the mouth of the Ganga, but there has been no significant change in the course of the river, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Monday.  Minister of State for Water Resources Satya Pal Singh in a written reply said the debris have been observed based on information from the National Remote Sensing Centre and the National Technical Research Organisation.

Juvenile Justice (A) Bill, 2018 tabled in LS

New Delhi: A Bill seeking to empower district magistrates to pass orders for adoption of children to reduce the time taken for issuing such directions, was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Monday. Currently, there is an inordinate delay in issuing adoption orders by the courts due to “heavy work load”. Against this backdrop, the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Amendment Bill, 2018, was introduced by Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi.

Centre unleashing super emergency: TMC

New Delhi: The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is yet to take a decision on removing a portrait of Muhammad Ali Jinnah from the office of its students’ union, an issue that had triggered a controversy in May.
