LUDHIANA: A day after
The Times of India highlighted how a
liquor vend had installed a board on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur national highway, saying, “We serve liquor in cars”, the vendor has removed it. The excise and police departments said they would not allow such violations in the city.
A mobile food vend owner said he saw the board on Sunday evening, but it was not there on Monday noon. Meanwhile, a group of policemen was seen about 20 metres from the vend and an excise department jeep was stationed near it.
Ludhiana deputy excise and taxation commissioner Pawan Garg said after the TOI brought the matter to his notice, he sent his team to the spot. He added that the department would not allow such violations and act strictly.
Harman Sidhu, the road safety crusader who first spotted the board, said it was a good step that the board has been removed. “I will keep a watch on the space as they might install it again. Also, I will write to the police commissioner, deputy excise and taxation commissioner and National Highway Authority of India, seeking action against the vend owner for violating the Excise Act and the Control of National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002,” said Sidhu. He added that serving liquor in cars was dangerous as it could lead to fatal accidents.
