BHUBANESWAR: Nearly two lakh commercial vehicles will go off the roads on Tuesday as part of a nation-wide transport workers' strike. School and college buses, ambulances and milk vans will not be included in the strike, Janardan Pati, president of All Odisha Transport Workers' Federation, said.
"The strike opposes the arbitrary amendments in the Motor Vehicle Act. The rules are meant to support insurance and private companies," Pati said. He added that the act envisaged to do away with all small garages, spare parts shop and driving schools. "This will affect the livelihood of lakhs of workers and have a huge impact on public transportation," he pointed out.

The director of the State Council of Education Research and Training postponed the CT and BEd exams scheduled on Tuesday to August 14, and several city schools declared a holiday tomorrow.
