A 23-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly hacking to death his father and brother at KwaNgqekwane area in Melmoth, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Tuesday.

Colonel Thembeka Mbele said the man was due to appear in the Melmoth Magistrate's Court on Wednesday on two charges of murder.

He was arrested on Tuesday morning after police attended to the scene at about 06:00, said Mbele.

"On their arrival they discovered the two bodies in a rondavel on the homestead," she said.

Mbele said both the 40-year-old father and his son, 24, had sustained multiple injuries on their heads and bodies.

They were hacked and stabbed on Monday night and the matter was only reported to the police on Tuesday morning, according to Mbele.

"The weapon suspected to be used during the attack was found and seized as an exhibit," added Mbele.
