Watching A Porsche Cayenne Hit 190 MPH Shows How Insane SUVs Have Become

Today, consumers have a seemingly endless array of super-quick SUVs to choose from and can carry heaps of passengers. One of the most impressive is the one that one could started it all: Porsche Cayenne Turbo.

Currently in its third generation, the Cayenne Turbo is powered by a 4.0-liter biturbo V8 delivering 550 hp and 568 lb-ft of torque. This allows it to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 4.1 seconds, according to Porsche, and top out at 178 mph (286 km/h).

However, this video shows one example easily eclipsing that figure. During a recent test of the SUV, AutoTopNL was able to record a top speed of 191 mph (307 km/h), underscoring just how insane these vehicles have become. However, this could also be down to the speedo being overoptimistic – but even so, it’s very impressive.

Not too long ago, speeds approaching the 200 mph (320 km/h) mark were the territory of supercars. Nowadays, one can buy an SUV that is able to carry five passengers in exceptional comfort with similar performance.

The Lamborghini Urus is officially the world’s fastest SUV. While the Cayenne Turbo makes do with 550 hp, the Urus’ 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 puts out 600 PS (592 hp) and hits an official top speed of 190 mph (305 km/h).

It is entirely possible that, like Porsche, Lamborghini has also been conservative with the claimed top speed of the Urus and we wouldn’t be at all surprised if future high-speed tests put it beyond the 200 mph (320 km/h) mark.
