The district panchayat is launching an action plan for improving learning experiences of SSLC students in the district and making all students who pass SSLC examination qualify for higher education.
A meeting was held here under the aegis of the district panchayat on Sunday to review the performance of schools in the last SSLC examination at panchayat division levels.
It was a precursor to the various activities being planned from September 18 to October 18 to improve studies of SSLC students to equip them for higher education. “The action plan centred around each region and each school will be chalked out and implemented on the basis of the findings of the performance review,” district panchayat president K.V. Sumesh announced at the meeting.
Special panel
The school-level activities would be led by a special panel including the respective District Educational Officer, Assistant Educational Officer, district panchayat division member, school teachers and PTA representatives.
The review found that all students who had appeared for the last SSLC examination in the Mayyil division of the panchayat passed.
As many as 862 students in three schools there had appeared for the examination.
Of these 104 students secured A+ grade in all the subjects.
Another finding is that the pass percentage was maintained at 99% and above in schools in 12 of the total 24 divisions of the panchayat.
The meeting decided to identify the mistakes made last year and correct them. Special study camps, special sessions in the morning and evening, subject clinics, home visits and awareness programmes would be conducted as part of the project.
Objective
The objective of the month-long programme was to ensure that at least 80% of students appearing for SSLC examination in the district next year should secure no less than C+ grade and 20% A+ grade in all subjects.
Special care would be given to the teaching of mathematics, social science and chemistry subjects in which most students lag.
