“We have noticed feedback from some users regarding the adaptive brightness feature on the OnePlus 6, it will be optimized in the next OTA update. (to be released very soon!),” the company wrote on OnePlus forum in its weekly update 242. Several OnePlus 6 users complained that the screens of their smartphones were flickering under bright light. Later, it was found that those who had the “Adaptive Brightness” feature enabled, had been facing this problem, and the flickering happened whenever the display slider made adjustments according to the lighting conditions. Some said that the flickering is more noticeable when the content on the screen has a white background or bright colours.
OnePlus was seen reaching out to OnePlus 6 users that were complaining about the issue on Reddit and sought logs with recordings of the flickering screens. In its weekly update, OnePlus then announced that the next OTA update for the smartphone will include an optimisation for the adaptive brightness feature that should end the problem. Given the history, the company is expected to roll out the August security updates soon. It seems that the next update will have the security as well as the optimisations in one package.
