A 28-year-old man allegedly killed his wife by slitting her throat in Kunjpura village of Karnal district, police said on Sunday.

The matter came to light when the accused, Vaidnath, stuffed her body in a trunk and was on his way to dumping it on a bicycle and people of his locality informed the police.

The deceased has been identified as Rasida Khatun, 26.

The police said accused belonged to West Bengal and used to work at a factory in Karnal.

Kunjpura police station in-charge Janak Raj said on Saturday night, the police got information that a man had murdered his wife.

Was going to dump it in a canal

The police reached the spot and found the accused carrying a locked box on a bicycle. “When the police opened the box, they found the body of woman,” he added.

Raj said the accused was arrested under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

He said the accused was produced in a court and was sent to two-day police remand.

Police said the accused told them that he had suspected his wife of having an illicit relationship following which he murdered her. After the murder, he was going to dump her body in canal, he told the police.
