Piyush Goyal on Sunday recalled that Deen Dayal Upadhyay had old association with Railways as his father, maternal grandfather and uncle worked with it. He said that Upadhyay spent long time in trains when he saw the miseries of the poor people and made his principles for life and humanity. He sacrificed his life for the country and its people.
Addressing a gathering during renaming ceremony of Mughalsarai railway station at Backley Gymkhana ground on Sunday, the minister also highlighted the major investments being done in UP for the development of Railways' infrastructure, services and introducing new trains. He said that after formation of Modi government, Rs 5500 crore are being invested annually for the past four years in UP in this regard.
In his address, MoS, Railway, Manoj Sinha said that in the UP has been given a share of Rs 11,000 crore in the rail budget. He said that what east UP region has got in past four years is more than it got in 50 years for upgradation of rail network and services. He said that with the completion of freight corridor the goods trains would be shifted on it by 2019 after which problem of late running of trains would end.
Sinha said that east UP had been benefited a lot due to the presence of PM as an MP from Varanasi. He said that the event of renaming of Mughalsarai Junction with launching of many mega projects of railway is taking place just a day after signing of a memorandum of understanding between the ministries of health and HRD to provide AIIMS-like status to Institute of Medical Science of Banaras Hindu University, which will cater to 12 crore people of east UP, Bihar and adjoining states to avail the best medical facilities near their native places.
