Heavy rains forecast in State in 24 hours

The Regional Office of the Indian Meteorological Department here on Sunday said several parts of the State would experience heavy rainfall from today.

A low pressure area is likely to form over West Bengal and neighbourhood triggering heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of Odisha.

Rains and thundershowers would occur mostly over north coastal and south Odisha in the next 24 hours.

Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall was witnessed in Mayurbhanj, Baleswar, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Sambalpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Cuttack and Dhenkanal and Jagatsinghpur districts on Sunday.

The IMD forecast heavy rainfall in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Angul, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi and Kandhamal on Monday.

Fishermen were advised not to venture into north Bay of Bengal and off the Odisha coast till August 7.

As per the Special Relief Commissioner’s office, the cumulative average rainfall in the State from June 1 till August 4 has come to a surplus of three per cent over the long-term average rainfall.

Five districts received surplus rainfall of more than 19 per cent while 19 districts received normal rainfall during the period.
