Heavy rain in the last 24 hours triggered landslides in several places across Himachal Pradesh on Monday. More than 100 lateral roads in the state were closed after being damaged by landslides.

The Shimla-Theog highway was closed after a 50-m road stretch was damaged due to a landslide. This has affected apple transportation from Jubbal Kotkhai and Rohru to Shimla, Chandigarh, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai.

Following the closure of the Rohru-Shimla road, traffic was diverted via Tau leading to a huge traffic jam.

“It might take another day to restore the road traffic,”said additional superintendent of police, Praveer Thakur.

Owing to continuous rain, the Beas is flowing above danger mark.

Heavy rainfall is predicted in several places in the state, including Kangra , Chamba and Hamirpur districts, this week.

Earlier, heavy rain had wreaked havoc in Shahpur subdivision of Kangra district on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, damaging private property worth lakhs.

Kangra experienced a record 124.1mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. Heavy rainfall was also recorded in Mandi, Hamirpur and Sirmaur districts.
