The 100 Finale: Can Bellamy Forgive Clarke's Betrayal?

Clarke (Eliza Taylor) may have finally gotten with the program and joined forces with Wonkru and the Space Friends to take the valley back from McCreary (William Miller), but the question that still remains as we head into The 100's Season 5 finale is whether her friends will even accept her back onto the team after everything she's done.

According to showrunner Jason Rothenberg, that question will continue to be explored even after the finale is said and done.

"I don't think they'll be so quick to forgive her. I think that'll be something we are continuing to deal with into Season 6," Rothenberg tells TV Guide. "I knew that some of the audience was going to have a problem with Clarke abandoning all of the people that they love in favor of this child. ... She's done some pretty crazy things from a certain perspective to keep Madi safe."

That's putting it lightly. In order to protect Madi (Lola Flanery), Clarke had to turn over Raven (Lindsey Morgan) and Echo (Tasya Teles) when they infiltrated McCreary's camp, and then she sat idly by as Wonkru got slaughtered in the valley. And let's not forget that whole leaving Bellamy (Bob Morley) to die in the fighting pit thing. Bellamy and Clarke have always had a strong bond and partnership, so that betrayal somehow felt sharper than all the others. Even though everything Clarke did were the acts of a mother protecting her child, the grudges they caused aren't going to die easily just because Clarke hopped back on the Space Friends team at the last minute.

"She's still protecting Maddie as she said in that big scene in [Episode ] 12. This is how she does that now," Rothenberg says. "So her friends won't -- I mean, of course they'll be grateful for the help, if it works, but they won't forget what she's done or necessarily forgive her right away."

Can you really blame them?

The 100 finale airs Tuesday at 8/7c on The CW.
