Nifty scales all-time closing high, up 26 points

Mumbai, Aug 6 (PTI) The NSE Benchmark Nifty extended gains for the second straight session to hit its record closing high, rising 26 points to 11,387.10 on buying in banking, metal and energy sectors amidst positive global cues.

While, profit-booking in pharma, FMCG, realty and IT sectors capped some gains.

Overseas, European shares reversed early losses and were trading higher amid a backdrop of renewed trade tensions.

Asian stocks settled mixed as earnings seasons rolls on. Investors continued to monitor the US-Sino trade spat.

The Nifty 50 index rose 26.30 points or 0.23 per cent to end at 11,387.10, its record closing high. The index rose 66.85 points to the day's high of 11,427.65. It hit the day's low of 11,370.60. It witnessed an intra-day movement of about 57.05 points.

Sector-wise, PSU bank rose 2.61 per cent followed by energy 0.75 per cent, metal 0.74 per cent, bank 0.73 per cent, private bank 0.68 per cent, financial service 0.54 per cent, auto 0.44 per cent, infra 0.42 per cent and media 0.40 per cent.

While pharma fell by 0.97 per cent, followed by FMCG 0.65 per cent, realty 0.59 per cent and IT 0.30 per cent.

Major index gainers were Axis Bank, SBIN, ICICI Bank, BhartiAirtel, UPL, Hindalco, Coal India and HeroMotoCo.

Index losers included GAIL, Dr Reddy, Kotak Bank, Titan, Hindunilver, Lupin and SunPharma.

The market breadth, indicating the overall health of the market, turned gainers. On the NSE, 1,056 shares advanced and 793 declined, while 86 remained unchanged.

Total securities that hit their price bands were 297.

Turnover in the cash segment eased to Rs 32,611.57 crore from Rs 32,614.32 crores as on last Friday.

A total of 14,764.46 lakh shares changed hands in 1,06,94,402 trades. The market capitalisation of listed firms on the NSE stood at Rs 1,53,06,433.98 crore. PTI ARR MKJ
