Mumbai: Fire breaks out at RTO guts documents and computers; no casualties

Mumbai: A level III fire was reported at the Regional Transport Office (RTO), Tardeo, on Sunday morning which was doused after three hours by the fire brigade. According to a senior official, important documents, learning licences and several other items were destroyed in the blaze. However, no one was injured and the cause of the fire is still to be ascertained.

The blaze destroyed the electric wiring, licences, documents, furniture, computers, printers and other items in 15 to 20 cabins on the RTO’s ground floor, the fire brigade cell of the city civic body said in a statement. “Around 5.20 am the fire brigade control room received a call about the fire took place at the Tardeo RTO offices after which immediately eight fire engines and two water tankers were deployed at the spot. After three hours the fire was under control but several documents pertaining to the licensing department were gutted,” added an official from the Disaster Management Department of the Brihamumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

He added that the fire was extinguished around 8.10 am and no casualty was reported. “An investigation was on to ascertain the cause of the fire, the official said, adding that RTO officials were assessing the loss incurred due to the blaze.”
