GURUGRAM: Running out of patience at
liquor vendors for failing to pay up, Huda
sealed liquor
vends whose arrears have yet to be cleared, a month after it had issued notices to five liquor vendors in the city.
On Monday,
Huda sealed 14 liquor shops, all being run on Huda land, and belonging to the five vendors. Together, they owed the authority a total of Rs. 12.23 crores.
Last week, Bharat Bhushan Gogia – estate officer II, Huda – had warned that strong action will be taken as per policy. Recently, the urban development authority had conducted an audit to calculate revenue generation.
It was found that five liquor vendors – Ganpati Wines (Rs. 5.19 crores), Discovery Wines (Rs. 2.80 crores), Lake Forest Wines (Rs. 2.08 crores), Prem (Rs. 1.36 crores) and Shiva Wines (Rs. 80 lakhs) – owed Rs. 12.23 crores to Huda since 2015.
On July 11, J Ganesan, the chief administrator of Huda, had directed officials to proceed against all defaulters. According to Huda officials, the vendors were given enough time to clear their dues, and, in addition, were warned that failure to do so would result in their shops being sealed.
