NOIDA: Eight
police stations will come up in Noida and Greater Noida to improve policing in the area that has been expanding with the increasing population. The new police stations will come up in Noida Phase 1, Sectors 115, 48, 63, 106 and Okhla. In Greater Noida, the police stations will be set up in Sector 142 and
NTPC Dadri township.
Land for the police stations will be allotted soon by the respective authorities. Sources said the need for more police stations had been proposed during the erstwhile Samajwadi government last year as Noida and Greater Noida was getting densely populated by the day.
Noida SP (city) Arun Kumar Singh said the eight were part of 14,000 police stations that would be set up across the state. “The UP government has asked us if the city has adequate land for the new police stations. We spoke to officials in the Noida Authority who said they would provide the required land. The buildings, however, will be developed by the police department,” the officer said.
No deadline has been fixed yet for the eight police stations. Officers said the Phase I police station would cover areas such as the DND Flyway, Sectors 1-10, 14A, 15, 15A, 16, 16 B, Harolla village and others that are currently under the Sector 20 police station. Sources said Noida and other areas in the vicinity had recently seen a spurt in crime rate.
The police station at Okhla will look after areas from Sector 94 to 132 and parts of the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Similarly, the industrial areas of Sector 63 will be covered by the new police station in the same sector. Currently, there are 22 police stations in Gautam Budh Nagar, of which Noida has 8, Greater Noida 13 and Sector 39 has an all-woman police station. The district constitutes three Assembly constituencies — Noida, Jewar and Dadri — where the combined population is around 30 lakh and increasing.
Vipin Malhan, president of the Noida Entrepreneurship Association, said the new police stations would bring down crime rate in the area. “We want the government to designate one police station particularly for issues related to industry. The government should also provide additional force to these police stations rather than accommodating personnel from existing ones,” he said.
Rajesh Kumar Singh, officer on special duty at Noida Authority, said the process to allot land for the new police stations would begin soon. “The chief architect planner has been directed to facilitate the process,” he said.
