NAVI MUMBAI: City’s run with good air quality continues. Monday morning was cool, breezy and the air fresh. The (AQI) was 34 with the island city’s 10 locations and Navi Mumbai monitored by SAFAR showing the "good" category green colour.

Good category is now more stringent. The air quality index forecast for Tuesday was also good for both the twin cities—Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The health advisory for both healthy and sensitive was "enjoy the day."

Navi Mumbai's AQI was still better than Mumbai at 24, but south Mumbai—Mazgaon and Worli were best at 21 AQI. Health advisory for the twin cities was "enjoy the day" and health risk --"no risk at all. The AQI was distant from the lowest 18 recorded on June 18 earlier this monsoon season and a trifle higher than the 32 recorded on October 12, 2017. Good rainfall over a long stretch in July and rains continuing in August had washed away the particulate matter (PM 10 and 2.5) and made it settle down while strong wind helped in further dispersion.

Construction activity being nil to negligible in the rains, besides the rains have helped the dust particles (PM10 and 2.5) to settle down and also, the carbon particles from vehicle emission dissolve; the strong winds helped further in dispersion, said the NMMC environment department.

AQI though was highest for Malad (75), Andheri (61) and Borivali (52). The air quality was in the satisfactory category; health risk said, "no risk," unlike the good category "no risk at all," but the advisory remained-"enjoy the day."
