Second PIL petition seeking appointment of AG

more-in

One more Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition was filed in the Hyderabad High Court, seeking appointment of Advocate-General for Telangana.

While a practising lawyer filed the first one, former Congress Minister Marri Shahshidhar Reddy filed the second one. Both petitions are yet to be heard by the High Court.

Mr. Reddy’s counsel Jandhyala Ravi Shankar made Telangana the Chief Secretary and the Special Chief Secretary to Telangana Governor as respondents in the petition. D. Prakash Reddy, who resigned as AG on March 26, was also made respondent. But counsel mentioned that he was not necessary party to the petition.

Counsel said that AG D. Prakash Reddy had appeared before a single judge on March 16 and 19 in a writ petition challenging expulsion of two Congress MLAs. On March 22, the Additional AG appeared before the judge and sought time for compliance in the case.

On March 27, the AAG presented to the judge that the AG would not be appearing in the case and he got instructions to appear for the State. Subsequently, reports appeared in media that the AG had resigned from the post.

Eventually, the AG had appeared as counsel in matters against the State. This suggested that the State did not have an AG. Mr. Ravi Shankar stated in the petition that there could not be AG’s team once the AG was not there unless a special Government Order was issued.
