HISAR: Despite an announcement made by chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar regarding Haryana’s first domestic flight from Hisar, there is still no clarity over its proposed launch on August 15. Doubts cropped up after Khattar, who was in
Hisar on Sunday, did not make any statement on this. Officials concerned too have not made any announcement in this regard.
Private aviation company, Pinnacle Airlines, will operate the flight under the Centre’s much touted, Regional Connectivity Scheme-UDAN. Once operational, Hisar will become Haryana’s first city to have domestic flight services. As of now, Haryana is a shareholder in the Chandigarh international
airport located in Mohali.
On January 20, aviation minister Rao Narbir Singh had announced the flight from Hisar to Chandigarh and Delhi. After this, a tender was released for the construction of runway, terminal, boundary wall and parking at the airport in April, which was not completed before the declared date. After this, the chief minister announced to start of flights from August
15. But work on hangar, boundary wall, runway, terminal and parking is still pending.
Israel Hussain, in-charge of the airport, said he could not tell whether the flight would start from August 15. “Please talk to the project director about this,” he added. Aviation department’s administrative officer Naresh Rathi said he had been in Delhi for the last one week but he had no update about this. “There is no clarity whether the flight will start on August 15 or not. I will go to the office on Monday and can give an update only after that,” he added.
