AHEMEDABAD: A 29-year-old man, Akash Desai, filed complaint with the
Paldi police station accusing Mahesh Desai and Dipen Desai of criminal intimidation, after which he attempted suicide by slashing his wrist in the Paldi area of the city.
Akash Desai stated in the FIR that he had borrowed Rs 28 lakh from the duo this February and had already paid Rs 36.20 lakh but they kept demanding more and more money.
Finally, they started demanding Rs 1.08 crore and as he was unable to pay the sum, he was abducted and threatened by the duo. They also shot a video in which he was made to say that he had borrowed Rs 1.08 crore from the duo. They were blackmailing him with the threat of making the video public.
“I borrowed Rs 28 lakh at the rate of 10% a month from Mahesh, a resident of Bhuyangdev, and Dipen, a resident of Navrangpura, to establish my cigarette wholesale business in February. The duo gave the money after deducting the first month’s interest of Rs 2.80 lakh. The duo had also taken three blank cheques and made me sign two stamp-papers which they did not allow me to read,” said the complainant.
Akash alleged that he had paid Rs 30.70 lakh till May but as his financial condition worsened, he was unable to pay the monthly interest of Rs 2.8 lakh.
“As the duo allegedly shot a video of Akash, in which he was made to say that he had taken Rs 1.08 crore from Mahesh and Dipen, he had to pay another Rs 1.50 lakh to them. Later, the duo allegedly took Rs 4 lakh from Akash’s father,” said a police official.
Mahesh and Dipen, however, kept threatening Akash due to which he came under immense stress. On Sunday evening, Akash slashed his wrist with a blade from the pressure of the
loan sharks. He was rushed to a private hospital by his father where he filed the complaint against the duo.
Paldi police are yet to arrest the accused persons in the case.
