Central team to take stock of sea erosion threat

The Central team expected to reach the district on Thursday to assess the impact of the Kattippara landslip will visit the coastal areas too, where the fishermen families are facing sea erosion threats. The team will comprise three officials representing various government departments under the Central government.

Some of the agriculture fields in Mavoor panchayat, where farmers suffered huge crop losses in the recent monsoon rain, too have been included in the locations to be visited by the three-member Central team.

Ahead of the field visits, they will hold a discussion with District Collector U.V. Jose at the collectorate at 10 a.m. Mr. Jose will also hand over the Revenue Department's reports on the landslide and the rehabilitation requirements. A local committee comprising people’s representatives and revenue department officials has also been formed to present the situation in detail to the Central team.

It was on June 14 that the major landslide claimed the lives of 14 persons, including children, in the area. Several families had been relocated to safer locations following the incident. The State government had adopted interim relief measures including financial aid for the victims’ families.
