Coimbatore: Notorious criminal ‘Rocket’ J Raja, a resident of Thisayanvilai, who was arrested in connection with the murder of an assistant professor and an attempted murder in Tirunelveli, came out of the Coimbatore Central Prison on Monday evening after securing conditional bail. More than 100 people had gathered in front of the prison to receive him.
Raja was arrested by Chennai city police in May 2018. He was lodged in the prison here and was detained under the goondas Act. However, he obtained conditional bail from the Madurai bench of the Madras high court by producing sureties. The HC has directed him to appear before the office of the commissioner of police, Mumbai, every day until further order. He later left for Mumbai from the city airport.
Raja was involved in the murder of Thevar community leader Katta Durai in 2001, police sources said.
