Heavy to very heavy rain likely in parts of State

The meteorological centre on Sunday issued an alert regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places especially in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Tehri, Chamoli, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar and Pithoragarh districts of Uttarakhand during next 48 hours.

According to an advisory issued by the authorities, in view of heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast in the State during next 48 hours, the commuters and pilgrims moving in mountains and people residing in low lying areas of plains of Uttarakhand are advised to be very cautious and coordinate closely with State Government authorities. In view of the weather forecast, the district magistrates of Dehradun, Nainital, Uttarkashi and various other districts have declared a holiday in all schools in their respective districts on Monday.

In an advisory issued by the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) all the district magistrates have been told to remain alert while ensuring safety and controlling traffic. In case of any disaster or accident, they have been directed to conduct timely site inspection and share information immediately. All the deputed officers of disaster management Incident Response System (IRS) and departmental nodal officers will be on high alert and updated through their mobile phones and wireless sets. The Public Works Department, Border Roads Organisation, national highways, CPWD and other departments concerned will ensure immediate action to clear any motor road blocked. Further, all police stations and posts will remain on high alert with disaster management related equipment and wireless sets. During the said period, none of the officials or employees will switch off their mobile phones and they will also remain at their place of posting. In the mountainous regions between 8 PM and 5 AM all vehicular movement should be prohibited except that of ambulances, emergency services, army and paramilitary vehicles. The rivers, streams and seasonal nullahs should also be monitored and in case the water level approaches the danger level, those living nearby should be told to shift to safer locations.

Meanwhile, according to the meteorological centre forecast, apart from the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall, the weather in general on Monday is likely to be cloudy. Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are very likely to occur at most places in the state.  The maximum and minimum temperature in the provisional state capital Dehradun on Monday is likely to be around 27 degree Celsius and 22 degree Celsius respectively.

The maximum and minimum temperature recorded in the various towns of the state on Sunday were 25.4 degree Celsius and 23.6 degree Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 25.8 degree Celsius and 23.5 degree Celsius in Pantnagar, 17.4 degree Celsius and 16.2 degree Celsius in Mukteshwar and 20.4 degree Celsius and 18 degree Celsius respectively in New Tehri.
