Catching up with best buddies, tying friendship bands, dining together and spending some quiet moments with the dear ones marked the Friendship Day that was celebrated with pomp in the city on Sunday. The Friendship Day is celebrated on the first Sunday of August every year.
In Visakhapatnam, the trend of celebrating Friendship Day is growing with each passing year as many plan to spend a while with their buddies well in advance, taking time out to treat one another in the best possible manner.
A number of quotes and images continued to flood social media on Sunday as friends from across the world exchanged wishes and thoughtful notes to brighten up the mood of their loved ones.
Besides outlets, several makeshift stalls made brisk business on Saturday and Sunday as friendship bands, rings and other goodies flying off the shelves like hot cakes. For some, it was an occasion to break social barriers and treat those belonging to economically disadvantaged groups.
Among the list, A.R. Bhargav, a Class VI student, decided to tie friendship band to the housemaid who helps his mother in completing household errands everyday.
Delivering a special message on friendship, Brahma Kumaris concluded their week-long meditation training programme at the Central Jail on Sunday. Led by Brahma Kumaris teachers Sasikala and Shekar, the event saw about 100 prisoners listening to the lecture that centred on nurturing the ‘art of friendship’.

The 1985 batch students of AP Residential Boys Schools at Peda Boddepalli met at their school . The batchmates spent Saturday night sleeping on the floor , having a bath in the open, performing Yoga and standing in queue for breakfast along with the present batch of students.
The programme was organised under the aegis of Dr. Bandaru Ramachandra Rao, president of the association. Animireddi Demudu Babu, Vizag unit head of Lupin Pharma, presented sports equipment worth ₹20,000 to the school. The Association presented books to students and a mineral water plant to the school.
