The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has surpassed the record of highest-ever energy supplied during a day on August 4 this year, by supplying 2749 lakh units (LUs) of energy.

Unrelenting hot and relatively dry weather conditions have increased energy requirements, so much that even on Saturday, when many of the Government offices, public institutions, colleges and schools were not working due to weekend holiday in the state, a new record of highest ever energy supplied in a day was set.

“PSPCL has beaten its own record of highest ever energy supplied during a day with the supply of as high as 2749 LUs of energy within state and in addition sold six LUs in power exchange at the rate of Rs 6.78 per unit,” said PSPCL chairman-cum-managing director Baldev Singh Sran on Sunday.

He said that the peak demand on this day touched 12,059 mega watt (MW). Earlier also, PSPCL had set a new record on July 10, 2018, when it supplied 2745 LUs of energy and 12,556 MW of peak power demand was met.

Sran said that despite such a huge energy demand and shortfall in availability of hydro power, PSPCL is supplying uninterrupted eight-hour supply to agriculture consumers also and no cut on general and industrial consumers is imposed.

He also assured that PSPCL have made all the necessary arrangements of power supply during these extreme weather conditions and due to round the clock monitoring.

“PSPCL is well prepared to continue to meet with the expectations of the people of Punjab during this scorching and humid weather conditions in future too,” he added.
