Abuse was sprayed across windows

Vandals spray-painted abuse on Jacob Rees-Mogg’s home and stuck a purple rubber vibrator on his wife’s car while the family were on holiday, the Tory MP has confirmed.

Graffiti with messages including “posh scum”, “shut up and die” and “****head” was scrawled across the windows and garage of the house in West Harptree, Somerset, and condoms were strewn across the lawn, The Sun on Sunday reports.

Reea-Mogg was in New York with his children and wife, Helena, when the vandals struck on Wednesday night, says the Daily Express. The Brexit-backing politician’s maid emailed him photos revealing the damage after discovering the mess the following morning.

Rees-Mogg had inadvertently “advertised the fact he was out of the country” by sharing photos of his trip on Instagram, adds the Daily Mail.

He told The Sun on Sunday: “It appears to be someone who can’t hold their drink - and probably not Catholic.

“However, it has all been cleared up so this drunken protest will not even have a short-term effect.”

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “We’re investigating a report of criminal damage at a property in West Harptree. The incident happened sometime between 4pm on Wednesday, 1 August and 8am on Thursday 2 August.

“Graffiti was sprayed on a building and a car, while damage was also caused to the garden. House-to-house enquiries have been carried out while crime scene investigators have attended. Enquiries are ongoing.”
