The usually quiet under-construction building on the OMR was buzzing with activity a few days ago. While the crew was shuffling about the set, ensuring that everything about the setting — from lighting and camera equipment to safety gear — were in place, director Karthik Thangavel and action choreographer Stun Siva, along with production designer Ilayaraja, were intensely discussing the climax sequences. We were on the set of the debutant director’s Adanga Maru, which has Jayam Ravi in the lead. “When a juvenile or a minor commits a heinous crime like rape, the punishment is not as severe. If he is 17, he spends just a year in the prison and walks out free soon. The film deals with a social issue that’s prevalent in the society, but we have treated the subject realistically. Adanga Maru means refuse to submit — ooroda othu vazhalam, but we should also question the wrongdoers,” begins Karthik.
