Vadodara: Former deputy sarpanch of Koyali village surrendered in court on Saturday involvement in kidnapping and extorting money from Dr Pratik Joshi, whose intimate videos with multiple women had become viral on social media in June.
Accused Ibrahim Rana turned himself in on Saturday after his anticipatory bail was rejected by a sessions court last month. Police then formally arrested him. Rana was named along with six others in the complaint by Joshi. He had alleged that the accused had abducted him and took him to Rana’s farm in February. Joshi was thrashed by Rana and others before Rana urinated on him.
It was also at Rana’s farm that Joshi had learnt that his intimate moments with different women were recorded by the accused. The videos were used by them to extort Rs 5 lakh from him. Initially when Joshi had told them that he does not have money, Rana had inserted a metal object in his rectum. Joshi then took a cash credit from his bank and borrowed remaining amount from his father to pay for his release.
After the case was registered in June, Rana was on run and he had even sought anticipatory bail from court pleading innocence.
On Sunday, Rana was produced before a local court by police for custody. He was sent to jail by court.
