Will connect Nerur and Unniyur, says M. Thambidurai

Construction of a bridge between Nerur and Unniyur across the Cauvery will begin soon, said Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambidurai.

Listening to the grievances of residents at Nerur, along with Transport Minister M.R. Vijayabaskar, near here on Saturday, Mr. Thambidurai said that it was a long pending demand of the residents of Nerur and Unniyur. The State government was committed to implement the project. The scheme was announced when Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami visited Karur a few months ago. Steps had been taken to start works as soon as possible. Similarly, a bypass road would also be formed.

Mr. Vijayabaskar said that as many as 408 works at a cost of ₹8.45 crore had been completed at Othakadai, Chinnakalipalayam, Senapadi, Nerur, Periakalipalayam, Mallampalayam and Muniappanur. Of them, 230 works were completed in Nerur alone. He said that as per the practice initiated by former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, the Ministers and elected representatives had been visiting the door steps of people living in villages so as to listen to their grievances and understand the civic infrastructure. It has been planned to conduct the Amma scheme camps in all villages. Speedy steps were being taken on the petitions received at Amma camps.

Later, Mr. Thambidurai and Vijayabaskar visited various villages including Minnampalli, Panjamadevi, Santhanakalipalayam, Seethakattur, Periyagoundanpudur, Kattur, MGR Nagar and Sankarampalayam and received petitions from the residents.

Krishnarayapuram MLA M. Geetha, District Revenue Officer S. Suryaprakash and Project Director of District Rural Development Agency S. Kavitha accompanied the Ministers.
