Egypt: 52 militants Killed

Egypt army has said that it has killed 52 militants over the past few days in the Sinai Peninsula. It said that the military launched operation “Sinai 2018” in February to rid the peninsula of Islamicmilitants who have been waging a bloody insurgency.

In a statement, the military said, during theseoperations in North Sinai and the centre of the peninsula, 49 militants werealso arrested in joint raids conducted by the armed forces and the police.

Militants launched an insurgencyin Sinai after the 2013 military overthrow of Egypt’s Islamist presidentMohamed Morsi, who was forced out in the face of mass protests against hisrule.
