Manchester United were beaten 1-0 by Bayern Munich in their final pre-season game before the Premier League season kick-off.
Here, Ciaran Kelly gives his verdict on how Jose Mourinho’s men performed .
David de Gea
Coped with jeers in post-World Cup hoodoo and a couple of decent early stops. Could do little for goal. 5
Matteo Darmian
Has had a good tour but really had hands full with Ribery. Crossing let him down a little, too. 4
Victor Lindelof
Built on World Cup with an encouraging display in a stadium he has performed with Benfica. Confident. 7
Eric Bailly
First time in a two-man defence with Lindelof and you have to wonder why it’s taken so long. Improved display. 7
Luke Shaw
Arjen Robben gave him a good test and while pushing retirement at 35, he got in behind far too often. Mourinho had words. 4
Andreas Pereira
Often found himself closed down but calm on the ball and another mature performance in the number six position. 5

Fred
Very eager to make an impression and his usually flawless touch occasionally let him down. 5
Ander Herrera
Helped lead the midfield without the ball and was a vocal presence throughout. Some smart positioning. 5
Juan Mata
Struggled to get into the game at times but helped Darmian out with defensive duties. 5
Marcus Rashford
Isolated. Got onto one clearance but no one in box to meet cross which summed up threat. Lost Martinez for goal. 5
Alexis Sanchez
Deserved the captain’s armband after a fine tour in US but saw little of the ball. Vocal during the water breaks. 5
Subs

Chris Smalling (51’)
Was not the plan to throw him in so early after injury but moved freely. 5
Scott McTominay (63’)
Energetic 5
Timothy Fosu-Mensah (63’)
Solid at right-back 5
Phil Jones (63’)
Understandably a little rusty 5
Demetri Mitchell (80’)
Too late to mark
Axel Tuanzebe (80’)
Too late to mark
Tahith Chong (80’)
Too late to mark
James Garner (83’)
