An electric supercar concept Audi will unveil this month at Monterey Car Week in Pebble Beach, Calif., could signal plans to add an e-tron version of its R8 supercar or replace it altogether.

The PB18 e-tron will be revealed Aug. 23. The concept's name refers to the Pebble Beach venue and the year of its debut, Audi said in a statement.

Some of the car's technology was inspired by elements of Audi's Le Mans-winning R18 e-tron hybrid race car, Audi said, without elaborating.

Audi has planned and then canceled an electric version of the R8 supercar twice in the last decade. The project was first canceled because of its low 134-mile range, then revived in 2015 as a low-volume production car after the range was increased to 280 miles. It was canceled again a year later.

Audi said this year it will build a full-electric e-tron GT "four-door sports car" starting in 2020 to sell alongside its upcoming e-tron crossover and e-tron Sportback "sports activity vehicle." a
