Nagpur: The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (
NMC) has chalked out a plan to connect with citizens using social media. At the same time, the civic body will conduct a test for its employees and officials to make them social media-friendly.
Deputy municipal commissioner Nitin Kapadnis told TOI that an
app for Ganeshotsav will be launched soon. “All details related to immersion spots, rules, emergency contact numbers etc will be made available on the app. Application for seeking NOC and system for lodging complaints will be also provided on the app,” he said.
A workshop was also organized for the NMC officials in which they were guided about usage of social media like Facebook, Twitter etc on August 2. “NMC is already having a social media cell and a common Facebook account. We launched a common twitter account and e-mail ID for bridging the gap between the citizens and officials. Citizens can lodge complaints, give feedback of the services, get all updates related to the NMC on these accounts. Some employees will be posted at the cell who will convey the officials about messages receiving from the citizens on the social media and get feedback and reply on these accounts,” he said.
Already, the NMC has started to post all its events and happenings on Facebook account. Also, NMC is updating all its polices, tenders, projects etc on its website nmcnagpur.com.
The NMC has started to adopt all new technologies with joining of Virendra Singh as municipal commissioner. Singh’s first initiative was launch of building plan management system (BPMS) through which architects, engineers can get sanction plans of layout and building
online.
To encourage the employees and officials to handle all their official accounts personally and do work on their own, Singh has announced to conduct test to know whether they have knowledge and can operate the computer from August 15 onwards.
Six months ago, TOI had exposed some NMC employees and officials especially of property tax department handling their official accounts through private operators despite very sensitive and critical and also it led to irregularities. Despite mandatory for class-III and above employees and officials, many of them are unable to operate computers and even check e-mails. But all of them had submitted certificates of MSCIT with the NMC for promotions and increase in salaries.
