TIRUPUR: A 38-year-old
farmer, his mother and two children were found hanging in their home near
Dharapuram in
Tirupur district of
Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as S Velusamy of Nadupalayam, his mother Mayilatthal, 70, and his children Rajalakshmi, 11, and Manicka Satya, 4. Police said Velusamy had murdered his children before committing suicide. However, it was not clear if Mayilatthal had committed suicide or Velusamy murdered her.
Police said Velusamy had taken five acres of land on lease for cultivation. But no cultivation was happening there. He was a drunkard and was in debt. He refused to go for any work, as requested by his wife, Satya.
There were frequent quarrels between Velusamy and Satya. A few months ago, she left his home and started living in her mother’s home in the same village. She was working in a knitwear unit near Tirupur.
His mother took care of the two children. Police said he was frustrated after his wife left him.
