Eagles star could be grounded after clash with Docker Andrew Brayshaw

Star West Coast midfielder Andrew Gaff is set for a lengthy stint on the sidelines and could potentially not be seen again in 2018.

Gaff was involved in an incident with Fremantle’s Andrew Brayshaw midway through the Eagles win on Sunday that left the young Docker laying bloodied on the Optus Stadium turf.

Replays showed Gaff strike Brayshaw in the head, 20m behind the play. Brayshaw was helped from the ground and didn’t return, believed to be taken straight to hospital.

The game became spiteful after the incident and the Match Review Panel could lay more charges as a result.

Gaff is among the favourites to win this year’s Brownlow Medal and was again one of the Eagles best on Sunday.

He is also out of contract at the end of the season, with several clubs from his home town in Melbourne believed to be interested in the free agent.
