Vadodara: When he went missing from Anand railway station in January this year, his family thought that he was kidnapped by someone. Seven months later, the Government Railway Police (GRP) tracked down 14-year-old Shahid Nagri from Kerala and brought him back to the state. The police said that Nagri had fled from Gujarat as he wanted to support his family financially.
“Shahid, who stays in Anand, used to study in Bharuch. On January 15 this year, his family dropped him at Anand railway station as he was to supposed to go back to Bharuch. But Shahid never reached Bharuch following which his family registered a complaint,” said S J Rajput, police inspector, railway local crime branch (LCB).
“When we scanned Shahid’s mother’s mobile phone call records, we found a suspicious number. She said that she used to get miss call from that number several times. We tracked down the number that was registered in Goa. We learnt that Shahid’s elder brother too used to work in Goa earlier,” Rajput told TOI.
The cops found out that the number was registered in the name of one Naresh Aiyar. When the police contacted Aiyar, he told them that Shahid used to work with him but he had gone to Kerala with his another friend Shankar. The LCB immediately contacted Kerala police and also got location of Shankar’s mobile. Shahid was then brought back to Vadodara and handed over to his family. He told that he had fled as he wasn’t interested in studies. Also, he wanted to earn money and support his family financially.
