NEW DELHI: The city’s short fuse was once again on display when a 35-year-old jeweller was stabbed and beaten by his neighbours over a parking dispute in northwest Delhi’s Bharat Nagar on Saturday evening.
DCP (northwest) Aslam Khan said that the accused, Harmeet Singh alias Honey and his younger brother, are absconding.

At 9pm on Saturday, when the complainant, Raj Raheja, returned home from his jewellery showroom in Karol Bagh, he found his parking slot occupied by Singh’s vehicle. “I went to Singh’s house and requested his mother to get the car removed from the parking spot. However, his son came out and said that he will remove it the next morning. I parked my car elsewhere and went home,” Raheja said.

A little later, Singh’s younger brother, a juvenile, came to Raheja’s house and started abusing and allegedly threatened to harm him. Raheja again came out and as he was following the juvenile to his home, he was stabbed by Singh in the back.

“They stabbed me on my arms, neck and head. Their mother held my arms, while the younger brother tried to stab me in the stomach, but I held his hand and the knife struck me in the face,” the jeweller, now recuperating in his house, said in his complaint.

Raheja’s wife rushed to Singh’s house to defend her husband and was allegedly manhandled by the Singh brothers. When they came out of the house, both the brothers ran away. Raheja was taken to a hospital for treatment and an FIR was lodged based on his and his family’s statement.

The neighbours of the complainant also said that the brothers had threatened them in the past claiming that they have contact with gangsters. Infuriated with the incident, locals pelted stones at Singh’s car and destroyed it.

Cops said they have sent teams to nab the two suspects and are trying to get more details from Singh’s wife and mother. They are also checking for CCTV cameras to ascertain the sequence of events.
