Tamil Nadu minister for tourism Vellamandi N Natarajan and minister for backward classes and minorities welfare S Valarmathi on Sunday flagged off three new
vans for the ‘102 service’ to drop mothers and newborns at their homes from government hospitals.
With the inauguration of the three new vans, the total van count of the ‘102 service’ in
Trichy has increased to seven. Of the four vans which were inaugurated in March 2017, two are stationed at KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College, while one each is stationed at Srirangam Government Hospital and Manapparai Government Hospital.
A total of 5,383 people, including 4,742 mothers and 640 children, have availed this service.
The three new vans would be stationed at KAP Viswanatham Government Medical College, Musiri GH and Thuvarankurichi GH.
The vans were flagged off at a function at Srirangam Girls Higher Secondary School. District collector K Rajamani and Lok Sabha member P Kumar were also present.
