CECB finds way to deal with tonnes of plastic waste

The Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB) has found a way to deal with tonnes of plastic waste generated in cities across the State.

In a meeting chaired by Sanjay Shukla, Secretary, Environment and Housing and Member Secretary, CECB on Saturday, the CECB has asked all the major cement manufacturing units in the State to use plastic waste generated by municipal bodies to burn them off in their kilns to mitigate plastic pollution.

Raipur, Bilaspur, Durg, Bhilai, Raigarh, Korba and representatives of cement plants at the CECB office here.

CECB has also suggested cement plant managements to generate power from the plastic waste burnt in kilns of their units in the State as being the practice globally.

It was decided in the meeting that within 15 days , Director, Urban Development and Administration Department will gather information on the quantum of plastic waste to be made available from each of 165 municipal bodies, their mode of transport and what quantum of plastic waste will be provided to each cement plant.

There was also talk about 10 cement plants which can use plastic waste in ‘co-processing’ mode.
