16 notorious dacoits held in Rayagada

In a joint effort, the Tikiri, Kashipur, Doraguda and Chandili police busted a notorious dacoit gang and nabbed sixteen criminals in the district.

Sources said a gang of 11 had congregated at Masuripadara ground of Tikiri to commit a dacoity in the house of one Pabitra Naik of Tikiri. On a tipoff, the Tikri police swooped down on the spot and nabbed nine miscreants. However, two dacoits managed to give the cops a slip.

Police have seized a Bolero, seven motorbikes, 20 grams of gold, a country made pistol, nine cell phones, choppers, knives, crowbars iron rods, screwdrivers, hammers, towels used as masks, number of dresses from the gang members possession, informed Rayagada SP Rahul PR in a Press conference here on Friday.

During interrogation, interrogation the accused persons confessed that they had committed burglary recently at the Sunger State Bank of India r and attempted to loot Gadiseskhal SBI but failed.

In another case, a gang of six miscreants had barged into the house of a resident  in Podapadi on July 11, 2018 and snatched his wife’s mangalsutra at knifepoint and disposed it to one T Murali of Kumutalpeta under Chandili police station. While three of the accused were arrested, three are still  at large and would be nabbed soon, said the SP.

Among others, Rayagada Additional SP Y Jaggannath Rao, IIC of Kashipur, Tikiri, Chandili and Rayagada police stations were present.
