BADURIA: A 57-year-old bank employee from
Baduria in North 24 Parganas died of
dengue at a
Salt Lake hospital early on Saturday morning. This is the first reported dengue death in Bengal this year.
Kasher Ali Mollah, a resident of Katiahat in Baduria, had been suffering from fever since July 20 and was treated at three hospitals before being admitted to Anandalok Hospital on August 2 where he succumbed to the virus. Mollah's death has raised an alarm since more than 30 had died of dengue at Baduria and neighbouring Deganga during a major outbreak last year.
Mollah had been admitted to the Basrihat District Hospital after being treated at home for three days. He was then shifted to a nursing home in Baduria. His family said his dengue was confirmed in a blood test done at a local clinic. He was then moved to the Apollo Gleneagles Hospital and finally moved to Anandalok. "Initially, he was treated by a local doctor. Once dengue was confirmed, we shifted him to Kolkata. We couldn't afford the expenses at big private hospitals so he had been admitted at Anadalok. But his condition kept worsening and the fever refused to subside," said Shariful Ali Molla, the victim's cousin.
Nearly a hundred are suffering from fever and are suspected to have dengue in Katiahat, said Molla's family members.
