Vadodara: A resident of Barmer in Rajasthan was booked for theft at JP Road police station on Friday after he fled with a car owned by online car rental service company.
Accused Khetaram Prajapati, had booked a car with Zoom Cars on June 8 for 25 hours. Police said that he booked the car online and also paid Rs 4,645 as booking and security charges online. On the night of June 8, Prajapati arrived at the company’s parking site near Mujmahuda to collect the car and after his identity cards were verified, he was given the car.
According to police, Prajapati was supposed to return the car on June 9. But when he did not return, a local official of the company Mukulanand Chauhan called Prajapati on his mobile phone which was switched off.
Chauhan then informed the company about Prajapati. When the company checked with its system, it came to light that Prajapati had removed the GPS system of the car. However, his last location was traced to Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
For almost two months, when the car was not returned, a complaint of cheating was filed against Prajapati.
Police has, however, not begun a probe in the case. “Cops are busy with security arrangements of chief minister’s visit to the city so even the complainant’s detailed statement is yet to be taken,” said a police official.
